'Say a Great Big Hello!' and Support Our Vulnerable Children and Young People During Covid-19

Sonia Montgomery

Arts Care was founded in 1991 and delivers a wide range of arts programmes and projects across all Health and Social Care Trusts in Northern Ireland.  Arts Care promotes the benefits of creativity to wellbeing, making all forms of art accessible to patients, clients, residents and staff in health and social care settings.

The 'Say a Great Big Hello' campaign aims to support all children and young people to reduce levels of anxiety and isolation during the Covid-19 pandemic, through the medium of art, inlcuding those with Covid-19, children with cancer, children with complex needs, including mental health needs and those who are in care.

Although this project is initiating locally here in Northern Ireland we would like your support to make the campaign global and to rally children and young people together across the globe to ‘Say a Great Big Hello’ and support all vulnerable children and young people at this time who are isolated and away from family and friends

Our request is to encourage children and young people in the community with the support of their parents/guardian to:

  • Paint a Happy Picture
  • Take an Amazing Photograph
  • Record a Fantastic Poem/dance or song

Send the above with a ‘Great Big Hello’ or a special message somewhere on the art works to Caitlin at our Arts Care Regional Office: info@artscare.co.uk

We will then create a ‘Great Big Hello’ Online Art Gallery and showcase all the art works and messages sent in on our Arts Care Facebook and Arts Care 4U YouTube Channel. Arts Care will ensure the Art Messages get to the Children in different services and we will host post-virus, a dedicated Arts & Well-being Art Exhibition of all the Art Works sent in at our new Arts Care Art Gallery, Belfast. All details are in the poster below. The art work on the poster was created by children in one of our Arts Care Workshops, facilitated by Arts Care Artist-in-Residence, Grainne Kielty.

If you are interested in becoming part of Arts Care here in the Western Trust and bringing wellbeing through art, dance and creative writing to your staff, your clients or the groups you work with, please email lorna.akroyd@westerntrust.hscni.net for more information!
